Samsung’s latest budget phone marketing stunt is shameful

Samsung’s latest budget phone marketing stunt is shameful

Samsung recently announced the India-exclusive Galaxy F70e ahead of its February 17 release, and honestly, I find the company’s marketing to be borderline insulting. This is a reskinned Galaxy A07 5G, yet Samsung India presents it as if it were a cornerstone of its entire budget phone portfolio.

There’s nothing wrong with marketing a new product. The problem is that Samsung India’s announcement shows zero restraint and no modesty whatsoever. It’s grossly overdone.

The Galaxy F70e is one of the cheapest Samsung phones ever made, but the sales pitch is packed with bold claims and buzzwords that feel outright disingenuous.

Here are a few examples of Galaxy F70e marketing nonsense. Below are official Samsung blurbs that, frankly, have no business appearing in the announcement of a phone this cheap.

Galaxy F70e 5G — the first smartphone of the all-new Galaxy F70 series

This is deeply misleading. Yes, it’s technically the first F70 phone, but in reality, it’s just a rebadged Galaxy A07, the cheapest Samsung phone available.

Notice how Samsung didn’t call it the F07 or F07e. Instead, it inflated the branding to F70e to oversell the device. That’s shameful. The Galaxy F70e is nothing more than a sequel to the F06. Calling it an “all-new series” is a stretch at best and a fake claim at worst.

Focusing on an unparalleled camera experience

There’s nothing special about this camera. The Galaxy F70e has a cheap 50MP primary sensor paired with an 8MP secondary camera.

From what we can tell, it’s the same setup used on last year’s Galaxy F06. There is nothing unparalleled here. The Galaxy F70e delivers one of the cheapest and weakest camera experiences in Samsung’s lineup, full stop.

Premium leather finish — premium leather pattern finish

There is nothing premium about this finish. Samsung is also conveniently vague about what this “leather” actually is.

Let’s clear it up. This phone is not wrapped in real leather. It has a fake leather or a plastic back with a leather-like pattern. Calling it “premium” is disrespectful to Samsung’s higher-end Galaxy phones and misleading for buyers.

Ultra smooth display that is sharp and immersive, with brightness that ensures clear visuals even in bright outdoor conditions

The Galaxy F70e doesn’t even have an AMOLED panel. It uses a PLS LCD with a 1600 x 720 resolution, the lowest you’ll find on a Galaxy phone in 2026. There is nothing sharp or immersive about it.

As for brightness, the screen tops out at 800 nits in high brightness mode. Not even 1,000 nits. This is one of Samsung’s dimmest displays, yet the company claims it “ensures” clear outdoor visibility. Calling this a stretch would be generous.

Powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 with an AnTuTu score of 623k+

Let’s save some time. The Galaxy F70e does not offer “lag-free performance,” especially not when multitasking or running demanding apps.

This is a cheap — the cheapest — Samsung phone. Expect lag, stutters, and compromises.

Samsung’s quoted AnTuTu score also looks questionable. The Dimensity 6300 usually scores around 420,000 points in AnTuTu 10. Even optimistic results barely touch the 500,000 range. A 623k+ score is either unrealistic or completely undocumented. Samsung provides no proof either way.

Targets consumers who want premium features at an accessible price

Yes, the Galaxy F70e is a budget Samsung phone. It's affordable. That’s the only accurate part of that sentence. There are no premium features here, and claiming otherwise is simply false.

Conclusion

I don’t know who decided to market the Galaxy F70e this way in India, but it comes off as disingenuous at best.

Some of these buzzwords make sense for pricier Galaxy phones. Reusing the same language for a rebranded A07 entry-level device doesn’t fit and never will.

Worst of all, the F70e name itself is misleading. Calling it “F70” implies a connection to an A70-tier device, which doesn’t even exist. This is fake positioning designed to make budget Samsung phone buyers think they’re getting something far better than they are.

In reality, they’re getting one of the cheapest and weakest Samsung phones money can buy. Is it a good choice for its price? Yes, it can be a decent buy if you can ignore the buzzwords. And that's ironic.

Budget users deserve honesty, not inflated branding and hollow promises. Marketing campaigns shouldn't get less sincere the lower down the price ladder you go. Samsung can, and should, do better than this.
